AWCON 2018: Triumphant Super Falcons claim 9th AWCON title



Nigerian Super Falcons, yesterday, claimed their ninth African Women Cup of Nations title, after beating Banyana Banyana of South Africa 4 – 3 on penalties, to claim the trophy.

GOAL.COM reports that the Thomas Dennerby tutored Nigerian side denied the South African ladies what would have been their first AWCON title.

The keenly contested encounter ended goalless, after 120 minutes of hostilities. Like the semi-final game between the Super Falcons and the indomitable Lionesses, the luck of penalties came the way the Super Falcons.

Oluehi, the Super Falcons shot stopper, was in sublime form for the Nigerian ladies. Oluehi made wonderful saves to keep Nigeria in the game.

After Onome Ebi missed Super Falcons first penalty of the shootout, Oluehi kept the hopes of Nigerians alive by providing a sensational save, which denied Linda Motlhalo a goal.

The only substitution of game happened when Super Falcons coach, Thomas Dennerby, subsituted Rasheedat Ajibade for Desire Oparanozie.
